Abstract : The study aims at identifying seven public libraries in Mecca: the library of Al-Haram al-Sharif, and the Library of Mecca, and the Public Library in the Holy Capital, the library of scientific Imam, the charitable library of Al-Froqan Mosque, and the Library of His Highness Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, the library of Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Thani. The descriptive study focused on the aspects of those groups of libraries both in terms of formal or substantive aspects, as well as planning methods for these groups, and rules for it. It also noted the services offered by each library from these libraries and submission requirements, if any. The researcher reviewed patterns of cooperation that can arise between libraries in the field of study both at the level of acquisition, organization of information as well as service. The study results indicate that most of the public libraries in Mecca encompasses a wealth of original manuscripts and pictures which are concentrated mostly in the library of Al-Haram, in addition to what those libraries contain of both traditional and non-traditional sources. These libraries are working to organize information sources available and getting them indexed and categorized. Most libraries use automated systems for that purpose. The services offered vary between libraries, all of them provide internal access to sources of information to beneficiaries, but do not offer external use services which is only available in one library; the public library in the Holy Capital. These libraries also provide electronic services represented in the services of CDs and digital media. The study confirmed that the cooperative acquisition of sources is more convenient to follow in the libraries of the study, with the need to the interactive use in between them, they can also engage in cooperative systems on an international level. The study discussed a number of recommendations including the need to develop written policies to regulate the cooperative work between the libraries, the need for standards to organize and facilitate group working to be able to engage in libraries cooperative systems.
