Abstract : In the mid90s, several web-based conference management systems were established and used in many conferences all over the world. This study surveys thirty five worldwide conference management systems available through the web. The empirical approach used to address the research problem was a field study with a checklist divided into five sections: conference management, submission, reviewing, publishing and registration. All systems share some common functions while some functions are limited to particular systems. The rest of the paper is organized as follows; section two discusses the general features of systems, section three presents an overview of system functionalities, section four includes criticisms of conference management systems, results and suggestions. The research paper addresses the current lack of Arab intellectual production in conference management systems and their role in reviewing and publishing conference papers. It offers practical solutions and many significant results. The findings reveal that none of the systems support the Arabic language. Also they are not regulated by Arab associations. Free systems are mostly used by Arab conferences specially “OpenConf” and “Easychair” systems. 74 percent of systems is available with fees, and 51 percent provides conference proceeding publications.
