Abstract |

The study discusses the current education programs for the electronic library specialists in the Libraries and information departments in the Saudi universities through the suggested list by the researcher explaining to what extent the needs suitability and presenting some suggestions.
On the practical aspect , the study depends on the surveying methodology using a group of tools to collect data and information such as the academic programs evidences of the studied departments, books & publication , description lists , personal correspondences and telephone calls. Also the study used the comparative method to compare the curricula currently available in the suggested list of this study , which involved seven areas along with their descriptions and study curriculums.
The sample of the study involves the curriculums of bachelor in the Libraries and information sciences in king Abdul Aziz university in Jeddah , King Saud university in Riyadh , and Um al-Qura university in Makkah.
Findings indicate that , important of which the superiority of Um alQura university in number of curriculums and study units with about (36) curriculums , and total (101) certified units , then King Saud university (31) curriculums and total of (97) certified units, and lastly King Abdul Aziz university with (24) curriculums and total of (78) certified units. It is noticeable that the sixth field which represent information systems and techniques is the most covering fields among these suggested fields , whereas the second field information sources the least field. Also it is indicative that Um AlQura university and King Saudi university are only the two universities establishing digital libraries, which is considered the most important field and deeply related to the electronic libraries.
The researcher has suggested some recommendations participating the current situation development in the studied departments, such as : the development of the students admission, paying attention to the periodical revision and evaluation of the study curriculum, concentrating on the teaching applied aspect, focus on preparation and qualification of the electronic libraries specialists in three aspects:
information, technology and skills through finding high specialized curriculum able to cover these aspects. Also the study recommend using the suggested list when analysis or development of the Library and information science program . |
