Subject : HEPATIC DEGENERATION IN CHICK EMBRYOS FOLLOWING INJECTION WITH METOCLOPRAMIDE
Document Language : English
Abstract : The present study deals with the teratological effects of an antiemetic drug " Metoclopramide " in the chick embryo . Embryos were injected after 24, 48 or 72 hours of incubation either with the therapeutic dose or its double of this drug while controls were injected with equivalent volumes of distilled water. All the embryos were examined after ten days total incubation period and the hepatic tissues were examined and described. It was found that metoclopramide causes degeneration in the hepatocytes and the connective tissue investing them . Blood sinusoids and bile ductules decreased in number and size. The hepatic cords become irregularly arranged. These histological side-effects increase with the increase of the given dose and with the decrease of the time of injection.
