Abstract : ABSTRACT. This research was conducted on some date palm cultivars; Sukariat EL-Qassim, Nabot Seif and Madjool at the Agricultural Research Station of King Abdulaziz University in Hada ALSham region during two successive seasons (1997,1998). The objective of the study was studing the effect of fruit strands thinning rate on bunch weight and physical fruit properties of some date palm cultivars . The heaviest bunch weight was obtained in unthinned treatment (control), and gradually decrease was associated with increasing fruit strands thinning. Fruit weight, dimension (length and diameter) and flesh weight were markedly increased with increasing fruit strands thinning, meanwhile the seed weight increment was very little. The results of this experiment suggested that fruit strands thinning rate between 30 to 40% for Sukariat EL-Qassim and Nabot Seif cultivars, and 20 to 30% for Madjool cultivar induced satisfactory yield with improving the physical fruit properties for the three cultivars.
