Abstract : The present work was undertaken to examine c-erb B2 oncogene expression in rhab-domyosarcomas.14 cases of different types of rhabdomyosarcomas were taken, formalin fixed .and embedded in paraffin. The sections were Stained with H & E for diagnosis, and the diagnosis was confirmed with special stain PTAH. 7 cases were found to be of the pleomorphic type, 4 were aIveolar type and 3 were embryonal type. The immunohistochemical study on the expression of c·erb B2 using the Avidin-Biotin peroxidase complex method revealed over expression and/ or amplification of the c-erb B2 in most of the cases. 5 cases of pleomorphic type showed over expression; 2 from the alveolar type and 3 cases of the embryonal type. The positive reaction was more severe in the embryonal type, moderate in the alveolar type and ieast in the pleomorphic type. Thus, it was concluded that amplification and over expression of c-erb B2 was found to be associated with poor prognosis in rhabdomyosarcomas.
