Abstract : Five hundred patients suffering from acute temporomandibular joint arthralgia were entered into a double blind randomized study in an attempt to compare between the efficacy of certain new drugs in the treatment of acute TMJ arthralgia . Patients were divided into 5 groups ; 100 patients each . Nabumetone , indomethacin , azapropazone , tapride or placebo were administered to the patients for 6 weeks . Joint pain disappeared completely in the majority of patients with much improvement in patients taking tiapride . One year follow-up showed no prompt recurrence of pain in the TMJ region
