Abstract : This study applied Hori et al's interseptal alveolotomy technique to close oro-antral fistulae caused by dental extraction or cyst removal. The assessment of healing was performed by spiral computerized tomography after one, three and six months. The technique was used to treat 10 pa¬tients with comparatively medium sized fistulae in the soft tissue approximately 5-7mm wide. CT results showed satisfactory healing with bone regeneration and successful closure of the fistulae in most of the cases (7 cases). In conclusion this technique provides a greater flexibility in the treat¬ment of oro-antral fistulae because bony base at the site of defects promotes more successful healing than other commonly used procedures. In addition, CT scans used in following up the cases either in the coronal or axial planes are considered as valuable method in detecting the new bone regenerate and in monitoring the mucosal lining responses to treatment.
