Abstract : This is a study which aims at tacking the work of Khair Al-Deen Al-Zarekly, a contemporary Saudi Arabian historian, with an attempt to pressed and analyze his books which were written on the history of the kingdom during the time of King Abdulaziz. The research begins with an introduction presenting the early political state of affairs of the Kingdom, and the transformation from total disunity to a unified political entity at the hands of the country's founder King Abdulaziz. The introduction includes an account of other prominent King Abdulaziz's contemporary historians besides Al-Zarekly. A biography of Al-Zarekly is introduced focusing on his life from his early days to the time of his settlement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he, along with other elite companions of King Abdulaziz, participated in the structuring of the different government bodies and diplomatic corps. The researcher highlights Al-Zarekly's contribution, mainly in the fields of literature and biographies. The research analyzes Al-Zarekly's important account of the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the time of King Abdulaziz, especially historical events which were the topic of his two volumes book: "The Arabian Peninsula During King Abdulaziz's Era". The research allocates one chapter for each volume of Al-Zarekly's book which dealt with events that took place during the first and second Saudi States, stories about public and private life of King Abdulaziz, the king's struggle to restore his ancestor's regality, the unification of the Kingdom and his many other achievements which put the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the threshold of progress in today's modern world. The research also displays and analyzes Al-Zarekly's other historical accounts of the Kingdom and the region in his books: "A Short Biography of King Abdulaziz", "What I have Seen and Heard", and "Two Years in Amman"; these were books which shed light on the important events that the region went through and, to a large extent, decided its future. Finally, the research exposes Al-Zarekly's historical methodology, his writing style, and his historical sources, and attempts to explain his potential motives for writing about Saudi history, with critical evaluation of how objective or subjective he might have been as a historian. The aim is to reach a conclusion through which we may be able to regard his writings as reliable sources for further research on Saudi contemporary history. The study concludes by giving special importance to Al-Zarekly's historical writings as they pertain to a very critical epoch of Saudi history. The study also depicts Al-Zarekly as a great thinker and writer of the first half of the twentieth century, who contributed significantly to the writing of the history of countries in which he settled and witnessed their important events.
