Abstract : This thesis is the manuscript of "the Journey of the Minister Al-Ishagi to Hejaz in 1143H/1731G and its author Abu Mohammed Abdulgader Bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi Al-Ishagi who died after 1150H/1737G. The manuscript constitutes of 389 pages. Which has been documented the events of the journey since the author left Fess in Morocco, passing through the countries located in the way of the caravan until he reached the two holy mosques in Hejaz land. Due to the large size of the folio, a part of it has been investigated from page 157 up to page 292. This part concerned with Hejaz land and it starts with the launch of the Moroccan caravan from Egypt and it ends up with the caravan's arrival at Hejaz. The importance of choosing this manuscript is to contribute to restore part of Morocco-Hejaz heritage, because the printed and investigated Moroccan journeys are very few compared to what morocco's has produced in this art. In addition to that, the journey has been characterized by a great value of its religious, historical and geographical contents which make it appears as a historical and poetical folio. It contains discussion of several jurisprudential, linguistic and historical issues in addition to a variety of poetical verses. Moreover, this study introduces the author of the manuscript, as he is one of the scholars and political persons in Morocco during the Alawi age who was surrounded by ambiguity and negligence, added to what mentioned there is only two copies of the manuscript. All these motivated the researcher to investigate and publish the manuscript so that it will be available for the researchers and those who are concerned with this art. In his investigation of this manuscript, the researcher applied the academic methodology followed in investigating such manuscripts like collecting two the copies of the manuscript then selecting one of them as an original one, then copy it from the old Moroccan original calligraphy to the modern dictating drawing, then comparing the two copies to assign the differences. After that referring the texts inside the manuscript to its sources, and finding out exegesis of verses traditions and poetries, introduction of famous persons, countries, confessions, nations and tribes, explaining the strange of language and terminologies, and commenting on events and narratives that required to be explained. This thesis contains two parts: Part One includes an introduction and three chapters. The first chapter studies the life of the author; the second one studies the copies of the manuscript while the third concerns with Al-Ishagi's journeys among other Moroccan journeys. Part two includes the investigated text which is the most important in which the researcher indicates via the differences among the copies, that the original manuscript is the Garaween's treasury manuscript at Fess and that the royal treasury's manuscript at Rabat is a copy from it. Also, the study shows that Al-Ishagi has written his journey upon the request of Sultan Abdullah Bin Ismael Al-Alawai as an official report submitted to him about the events of that journey and the rest of the official delegation whose president is princes Khunathah and her grandson Mohammed Bin Abdullah in their way to the holy mosques . As for the text and its production as an investigated one, it is no doubt that it contains important information, particularly about the biographies of the scientists who met Al-Ishagi on his journey to Hejaz, he mentioned a lot of their news and poetry which many of them are not known except in this journey. It also includes information about the political, social, and ethical conditions and in particular information about religious aspects, mosques, graveyards and its stones, and pilgrimage at that age.
