Although the Nowayri family did not live more than two centuries in Hijaz and that it delayed sayed in Makkah,later it occupied of most jobs in Makkah such as judiciary, Qada, Khatabah, breaching, Imamah, the Holy Mosque, and teaching, as well as jobs out Makkah and Hijaz like Jeddah, Al-Madina, Yemen, Jerusalem, and Cairo. The family insisted on educating their sons well and sent them to education centers in Syria and Egypt besides benefiting from neighboring scholars in Makkah. the Nowayri's relations with Mamluks and other sultans of Islamic countries were excellent while their relation with Al-Shraf family was troubled. Women of the Nowayri family participated in the educational process but limitedly due to social obstacles in that age. The study used the historical research as information was gathered from different sources such as manuscripls, historical books, references, academic thesis, periodicals, and encyclopedias and then analyzing it to reach nearly the facts.The research reached several results that can be summarized in the following: The importance of Makkah and Hijaz religiously and economically and that Mamluks paid great attention to it due to religious and then economic reasons. The study revealed the corruption of Mamluki management in Egypt and Hijaz which was reflected on positions in Makkah. In adition, the research revealed the low degree in attention paid by Mamluks to Makkah compared with Egypt and Syria. The Nowayri family, in spite of its short age compared with Tabari or Zuheri families, dominated the positions in that period because of its strong relations with Mamluks. |
