Abstract : The thesis studies the standards of Grammar through the semantics of the lexis between Ibn Jinni and Ibn Hisham , The study adopted the descriptive and analytical approaches to decide on the positions of these Grammatical rules in Traditional Grammar books through tracking and collecting topics related to these rules. It necessitated afterwards the ordering of these according to the stronger and the lesser strong. The research is divided into three chapters, preceded by an Introduction, and a preface and followed by a conclusion and specialized indexes. Chapter I addresses positive standards: quantitative and qualitative, chapter II :addresses the negative standards: quantitative and qualitative, and chapter III: presents an evaluative study of the standards as used by Grammarians. The conclusion presented the research findings and recommendations. The most important of these is that there are three kind of standards: rules that must be applied, rules that must not be applied, and rules that can be either done or not. Other descriptive terms are only variations on the possibility rule.
