Abstract : This study covered Jizan area where the bottom trawlers are mostly operational in the Saudi Red Sea coast. It extends from Lat. 17 40 N southwards to the Yemeni border .The current stock status of the green tiger shrimp, Penaeus semisulcatus, in Jizan fisheries was assessed, and the amount and composition of the bycatch landings were evaluated. The major by-catch species groups recorded in the shrimp trawling are : Sepiidae and loliginidae; Rastrelliger kanagurta; Carangidae; Lethrinidae; Argyrops spinifer; Sea Cat fish; Sphyraenidae barracuda and Portunidae. The study results shows that, by-catch species represent the major proportion in the catch of shrimp trawling in Jizan area, followed by the discards and the shrimp landings in all the fishing seasons. The percentage in the season of 2015 – 2016 found to be 54% , 35% , 11 % respectively . In general the Shrimp dominated 11% from the total catch, where 89% by-catch and discards. The monthly length frequency distributions were analyzed for the estimation of growth parameters which were found to be L∞= 94.4 mm, K = 0.81 year-1 . The total mortality 'Z', natural mortality 'M', and fishing mortality 'F' were estimated to be 3.124 , 1.163, and 1.961 year-1, respectively. The current exploitation rate 'Ecur' was 0.628 year-1. The carapace length at first capture was estimated as 35.73 mm and the age at first capture (tc) was 0.387 years. The value of the biological target reference point F0.1 estimated as 0.845 year-1. The percentage of biomass / recruit value to the virgin biomass at t F0.1 was 38.46%.. Results indicated that, Ecur (0.628) was higher than Emax (0.581) which indicates that the stock of the P.semisulcatus in Jizan fisheries is currently over-exploited.
