Abstract : SAND MOVEMENT TOWARD COASTAL ROAD CASE STUDY, AL-LEITH –AL-QUNFUDAH EXPRESS WAY Prepared by researcher / Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Kiyadi Supervised by Dr. / Mohammed Abbas Daoudi Abstract: This study investigates sand dunes crawling into the international coastal road between the cities of Al-Laith and Al-Qunfudah attempting to limit the crawling; and to be an applied model to other roads in Saudi Arabia. The study discussed the nature of sand dunes and types of sand crawling within the area. Findings revealed that percentage of vegetation represents (0.139) km2 which represents (0.1%) of the total area. Most of the percentage is concentrated in small private ranches affiliated to southern area of Al-Laith villages. Except that, vegetation is located in very tiny areas that are so meager and not clearly demonstrated. Two probes were analyzed in 2000 and 2016 to recognize the behavior and sandy area changes in the region. The researcher carried out several site visits, to identify landmarks on the route and install stations to measure sand crawling and any changes in its levels. Five field readings were taken also during the measurement of sand crawling through the peak seasons (June, July, and August). The rate of movement of granules reached (7.5 km/h) during the first 40 days. Sandy samples were analyzed confirmed that the most important factors affecting sand erosion were attributed to wind speed, lack of vegetation, and soil salinity in the coastal areas. Granular analysis of soil was found to be free of gravel. The sand represents (2.4%) ofconse sand grains and (96%) of fine-grained sand, while the rest represents (1.6%) of clay. The researcher recommended using road signs, increasing the guidance factor and the necessity of constructing additional routes as well as sand dunes fixation by planting on the road sides to avoid accidents, considering the hot climate, rare rain of this region and the necessity to set up monitoring stations in differen
