Abstract : Academic Advising is one of the most important unit in high educational institutes. It serves students' needs and institutes' objectives to improve students' experience and maximize loyalty and graduation rate. In fact, students who join the universities with certain goals may face many difficulties, such as whom to contact, and where to get information about courses, university, and major. Considering this, each student in the university must has an advisor from his/her department who can address student’s problems during their academic years in the college. The advisors spend considerable time in analyzing student performance, interests, and goals. The rise of student numbers is making it difficult for the advisors to spend time with each advisee. Technology with its different aspect has the power to improve the services of this unit. An automated system is essential to provide information fast, accurate and, available any time. The focus of this thesis is to investigate the current level and situation of academic advising and develop an intelligent system to serve the needs of advisors and students. It is scoped for the master's program of the Information System Department of King Abdulaziz University. This work would locate the groundwork to expand the advising system to the university-wide programs with other more intelligent services, to transfer the traditional advising into an intelligent one.
