Abstract : This study aims to examine all aspects of the critique of modern scholars for the traditional morphological course in its various dimensions. It reveals the methodological and epistemological issues, relying on linking their critical visions to their intellectual foundations on one side and connecting them to their theoretical and applied consequences on the other side. This leads to a number of methodological and subjective remarks on their criticism. The methodology is based on the analysis, classification, criticism and evaluation. It adheres to the description in the induction of modern scholars’ attitudes towards the traditional morphological course relying on analysis and classification. It also applies the description in linking their critical visions to their intellectual foundations and in connecting them to their theoretical and applied consequences. Criticism and evaluation have been used to discuss the modern scholars’ attitudes and the consequent proposals and interpretations. The significant results of the study: - The modern critical writings that tackled the traditional morphological course need to be classified in two parts; the first is a modern morphological criticism that does not explicitly belong to linguistics in its references, objectives and approach, represented in reformative, historical and comparative criticism. The second is a modern morphological criticism, which is represented in descriptive and phonetic criticism, explicitly belongs to it. - A lack of full awareness appears in these critical writings in terms of the emergence conditions of the traditional morphological course, which is different from that of other approaches and linguistic theories, its historical and social context, its limitations in understanding the topics dealt with, its general basis and principles, and its intellectual framework. - These critical writings, whether consciously or unconsciously, contribute to the openness to modern morphological approaches and their applications on Arabic word structure by introducing it to Arab researchers, and by drawing the linguists’ attention to its significance. These approaches also enrich the morphological studies by raising new morphological issues, and proposing methodological solutions for them. Keywords (Modern Morphological Criticism - Morphological Reform - Historical and Comparative Morphological Interpretations – Description of Arabic Morphology - Effect of Sounds on Morphology)
