Abstract : Background: Respiratory tract infections are the world’s second largest cause of mortality. They have become a huge health concern, affecting 15% of Saudi Arabia’s population. Methodology: All nasopharyngeal and pharyngeal swab samples were tested for 33 respiratory pathogens using real-time PCR. Result: Among 1,891 patient files reviewed, a total of 1,281 respiratory pathogens (67.7%) were found. Staphylococcus aureus was the most often identified pathogen (33.18 %), followed by rhinovirus (30.39%), Streptococcus pneumoniae (24.2%), and respiratory syncytial virus (17.49%). During the research period, of the 1,891 diagnosed respiratory illnesses, the number of mono infections was (572; 30.30%), dual infections (377; 19.9%), and and multi-infections (more than 3 infections) (332; 17.6%) were estimated. No statistical difference between multiple and single infections was found in terms of patient demographic data such as gender, country, cities, and symptoms of respiratory tract infection. S. aureus and S. pneumoniae were the most commonly linked bacteria with multiple infections with various respiratory viruses. Respiratory pathogens peaked at 69.7% (440/1,280) in December (n= 328), in January (n= 226), in and February (n= 78). Conclusion: This study sheds light on the seasonal change in the region’s respiratory tract infections. The findings offer a review of viral circulation across Jeddah rejoin and will aid in the development of preventative measures for each infection.
