Abstract : The research studies the words indicative of human character and conditions contained in the book "al-Talkhīṣ fī M’arifat Asmā' al-’Ašyā" by Abu Hilal Al-Askari (d. 395 AH), in the light of (the theory of semantic fields), relying on what came in the Arabic dictionaries of explanation and interpretation of these words, and using the descriptive approach to monitor, study and analyze the words and indicate the semantic relationships between them. The study was divided into two chapters, preceded by an introduction and Preface, followed by a conclusion. In the introduction, the study dealt with the concept of semantic field theory, the verbal common and its most important issues, and the factors and manifestations of semantic development. In the first chapter, the fields of words indicating good temperament and the fields of words indicating bad temperament, and in the second chapter, the fields of words indicating psychological conditions, the fields of words indicating physical conditions, and the fields of words indicating social conditions. The study sought to reveal the semantic origins of these words, and to find out the subsequent change in their significance, and what are the justifications for their use. It has emerged through the research that some words may change the field of significance from what they were at the time of writing the book, such as: the word (Bahloul) from the field of generosity. The research found that many of the words used in the fields of temperament and conditions have been subjected to semantic development, either by transfer, generalization or customization. Keywords: Abu Hilal Al-Askari, semantic development, semantic field, human character, human condition.
