Abstract : Due to the importance of working hours to the productivity and viability of any society, it is important to investigate all possible scheduling options in a given society. In this research the writer address the issue of suitability of the current working hours in Saudi Arabia to the climate, social and religious conditions of that country. The alternative working schedule suggested by the writer start from early morning prayer (around 6 to 5 O’clock in the morning) to the noon prayer (around 12:30) for the public sector and to Asha prayer (around 9 in the evening) for the private sector. The writer take his idea one step further by conducting a pilot survey investigation of a sample of working Saudis who have completed their high school Diploma and who have entered the Saudi work market. The main objective is to see the level of willingness (or for that matter rejection) of that segment to such a major change in working hours. Both, the hourly comparison of the two working schedule in relation to environmental factors, and the survey investigation results are supportive to the new idea in which prayer is used as a prime scheduling tool across the day. The early start will also help in making use of the healthy early morning hours, reducing the impact of rising temperature on the working environment and enhancing the quality of night sleep for the society as a whole (in the new schedule there will be more night hour sleep). Among the clear advantages of the new working hours are eliminating the intersection between prayer time and working hours. The suggested drastic change in working hours will surely require other changes in school schedule and public television air time, but it is not impossible to implement since the Saudi government continues to manage changing the working hours of the society every year during the month of Ramadan by a single government decision. The results of the this research should only serve as an indicator for the feasibility of implementing the suggested working hours for Saudi Arabia and more elaborate research should be conducted .
