Overview of Engineering Design;

Review Capstone Design Project proposals

The Capstone Design Project; purpose and management

Assign projects, set project teams, name team roles . Determine limits of the project team: time, finance, knowledge, skills and experience

Selecting and Defining the Design Problem

Describe the situation and define the problem. Involve  appropriate engineering standards and multiple realistic design constraints and write detailed customer specifications.

The Background Search and Literature Survey

Discuss how to use the experience that is based on knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work

Experiment design

Determine earlier design work and its limitations

Measurement and Data Analysis

Identify the project needs and set the tentative project design specifications

Documenting the Design; charts and graphs

Redefine the problem, prepare list of major activities for the project and a timeline (Gantt chart)

Writing the project Report

Determine alternative solutions

Oral Presentation

Evaluate pros and cons of each alternative

Evaluate alternatives. Modify the product design specifications and prepare decision tables
